Subordinating Intelligence: The DoD/CIA Post‑Cold War Relationship David P. Oakley Hardcover, University Press of Kentucky, 2019 ISBN: 978‑0‑8131‑7670‑3 Book Description: In Subordinating Intelligence, David P. Oakley provides a detailed and original examination of the evolving relationship between the United States Department of Defense and the Central Intelligence Agency in the years following the end of the Cold War. Drawing on professional experience as both an Army officer and a CIA officer, Oakley traces how intelligence support to military operations became the Intelligence Community’s highest priority during the late 1980s and 1990s. The book explores the institutional, policy, and operational changes that reshaped cooperation between the CIA and the DoD, particularly during peacekeeping and nation‑building missions in Somalia and the Balkans, and later during the global war on terror. Oakley argues that growing emphasis on tactical and operational intelligence gradually weakened long‑term strategic analysis, a shift that became entrenched after the attacks of 11 September 2001. Combining insider perspective with rigorous scholarship, this volume offers an important contribution to the study of intelligence history, civil‑military relations, and U.S. national security policy. Condition: Very Good This hardcover copy is in very good condition, with clean and unmarked pages, a firm and square binding, and a sound spine. The boards and dust jacket show only light handling wear, with no significant marks or damage, and the book remains a well‑kept example overall.…
