Print on Demand. This book is a study of the meanings behind the characters and plot of one of the most monumental creations in the history of English literature, Percy Bysshe Shelley’s 'Prometheus Unbound.' The author provides an analysis of the main outline and purport of this colossal performance. Specifically, it explores the myth of the drama, who Prometheus is, who Asia is, who Jupiter is, and who Demogorgon is. The author's interpretation delves into the meanings behind these characters as symbols, their relation to one another, and their significance within the broader context of human history and the human condition. The author argues that, in the drama, all the evil which befalls man is due to man's anthropomorphizing of the forces of nature and the creation of gods in his own image. The author goes on to elucidate the philosophical underpinnings of the drama, particularly the author’s view that the only way to achieve true freedom and happiness is to reject superstition and embrace reason and love. The author concludes by emphasizing the significance of these insights for understanding the perennial human struggle against oppression. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

There was the Heaven and Earth at first, And Light and Love then Saturn, from whose throne Time fell, an envious shadow. Such the state Of the earth's primal spirits beneath his sway As the calm joy of flowers and living leaves Before the wind or sun has withered them, And semivital worms. But he refused The birthright of their being, knowledge, power, The skill which wields the elements, the thought Which pierces this dim universe like light, Self-empire, and the majesty of love For thirst of which they fainted. Then Prometheus Gave wisdom, which is strength, to Jupiter, And, with this law alone Let man be free,' Clothed him with the dominion of wide Heaven.
To know nor faith nor love nor law, to be Omnipotent but friendless, is to reign.
And Jove now reigned for on the race of Man First famine, and then toil, and then disease, Strife, wounds, and ghastly death unseen before, Fell and the unseasonable seasons drove.
