Print on Demand. This book, a compelling exploration of human nature and the complexities of war, unveils the insights of a soldier who found himself thrust into the trenches of World War I. Through vivid descriptions of battlefield experiences, the author, a student before the war, grapples with profound questions of courage, loyalty, and the fragility of life amidst the horrors of the front lines. Interwoven with personal anecdotes and philosophical reflections, this book offers a unique perspective on the human spirit's resilience and the transformative power of adversity. The author's journey from a sheltered academic life to the brutal realities of war challenges conventional notions of heroism and reveals the hidden depths of human character. Delving into themes of self-sacrifice, camaraderie, and the search for meaning in the face of chaos, this book invites readers on an introspective journey. Its insights on the nature of war, the bonds of brotherhood forged in adversity, and the ultimate triumph of the human spirit make it a timeless and poignant read for anyone seeking a deeper understanding of the human condition and the enduring legacy of armed conflict. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

Concerning that passage the Editor of the Spectator says - and I think justly - that a Commander of today might, with all sincerity parody Wolfe and declare that he would rather have written it than win a general action. One rises from reading that passage, - ~and the effect is the same wherever you open the book, - feeling that man is. After all. A noble animal, that human nature, despite all its falls and its failures, has in it that which demands-and deserves our rever ence. The British soldier is human, very human, and he has his faults; but he has also his great and redeeming virtues, his ability to endure without complaint, to be unselfish without making a song about it, to risk life itself for the good of the world, the honour of the regiment, and the safety of his com rades. _what is there higher than this? He that ruleth his own spirit is greater than he that taketh a city; and noble indeed is he of whom it can be said that he so loved that he was glad to give his life.

All Forgotten Books titles are printed on demand. The moment an order is submitted, it is automatically transmitted to our distributor and then forwarded to the printer, where it enters production. This process begins within minutes and is entirely automated.

For this reason, we kindly ask that you double-check the title, edition, and your shipping details before placing an order.
If you change your mind after ordering, you are welcome to return the book once it arrives, and a refund will be issued in accordance with AbeBooks’ return policy.
Please also make sure your address is correct before ordering as we will no be able to intervene and make changes before the book is shipped.
We can provide digital samples for all our print books ahead, so don't hesitate to reach out.
Returns
As a small publisher we do not have the facilities to resell returned books, so any returned book will be recycled. If the book is damaged or defective please continue with the return process, and thank you for letting us know so that we can improve our products.
