Item description from seller

Red cloth boards with gilt titles and gilt cover image of a tree with hanging lamp; firmly bound, the smallest amount of staining and sun fading to the spine. Internally very crisp, clean and bright. FEP contains the large attractive sticker of the Ashmolean Natural History Society of Oxfordshire, the oldest Natural History Society in England, from which this book was deaccessioned, and a very small catalogue number sticker; FFEP contains a presentation sticker stating that it was purchased for the Oxfordshire Natural History Society (which merged with the Ashmolean in 1901) by the committee in 1900. Includes a tissue-guarded frontispiece of Darwin from a painting by Sir J. Collier that hangs in the National Portrait Gallery. Overall Very Good+. Photos available on request. An attractive and very well-preserved copy in a scarce binding. N.D. [pre 1901].
