Large Hardcover, Stated Second Printing 1978 Golden West Books 298 pages. Near Fine, in a VG DJ. Glossy Silver cloth boards with black titles - corners sharp. Moderate shelf/edge wear and a few closed tears to original unclipped DJ - now in mylar. No previous owner markings - all pages are clean and unmarked. The streamline style, which began by rounding corners of immobile objects, ushered in the moderne across America in the 1930's. Railroads decided to streamline with the coming of the diesel locomotive. Featured is the influence of designers such as Cret, Dreyfus, Bel Geddes, Kuhler, and Lowey. The evolution of semi streamlining took place as depression poor railroads attempted to modernize. The coming of Burlington's Zephyr and Union Pacific's, started a mad dash by America's railroads to streamline passenger trains. There is also a chapter on streamlining of trains around the world. More than 500 illustrations, four color plates, complete list of Streamliners from 1933 to 1942, Bibliography and Index. Very handsome copy in DJ. ISBN-0870950533. LOC SSM-01.
