Paperback. Broke and alone, this street smart cynic is about to discover family is about more than blood, and definitely more than money.Brenda Munroe was mercenary even as a child, because it was that or go hungry, or worse. From stealing school lunches, she's moved on to bigger and better things. Some are even vaguely legal. Life is looking up, the future is bright and her bank balance healthy, when her carefully created world comes crashing down around her ears. Stuck in late seventies London and stony broke, it'll take every ounce of her street smarts to survive this time.Strapped for cash, and with a preference for a ninety-five-year-old over the old nine-to-five, Brenda does the only sensible thing and opens a residential school for girls. She'll teach her students in a matter of weeks what it took her years to master. Namely, how to get by on your good looks and a bucket-load of charm. And no need to screw the old guys, thank you very much. It's the type of education no respectable institution would put its name to, which is exactly why it works. But as her girls sharpen their act, Brenda wonders who's really being schooled. Somewhere between the lessons and the cons, the misfits under her roof feel like the one thing she swore she'd never need. Will her students be the only ones learning new skills, or will Brenda finally understand that family is about more than the blood relations you've been lumbered with? After losing everything, a cynical survivor turns to teaching young outcasts the art of charm and deception to stay afloat, only to discover that the bond of chosen kin is more valuable than any heist. Broke and alone, this street smart cynic is about to discover family is about more than blood, and definitely more than money
Brenda Munroe was mercenary even as a child. It was that or going hungry, or worse. From stealing school lunches, she’s moved onto bigger, better, and even legal things. Life is finally looking up when her carefully created world comes crashing down. Stuck and broke in London, it’s going to take every ounce of her street smarts to survive this time.
Strapped for cash — and with a real aversion to the old nine-to-five — Brenda opens a residential school for girls, teaching them in weeks what it’s taken her years to master. Namely, how to get by on your good looks and a bucket-load of charm. And no need to screw the old guys, thank you very much.
Will her students be the only ones learning new skills, or will Brenda finally understand family’s about a lot more than the blood relations you’ve been lumbered with.
