New impression. Hardback, bound in half blue leather by Bumpus, marbled paper covered boards, and with five raised bands and gilt titling to spine. All edges gilt, marbled endpapers. 18.5 × 12.5cm, 247pp. First published in 1886 as a 'shilling shocker', Robert Louis Stevenson's dark psychological fantasy gave birth to the idea of the split personality. The story of respectable Dr Jekyll's strange association with the 'damnable young man' Edward Hyde; the hunt through fog-bound London for a killer; and the final revelation of Hyde's true identity is a chilling exploration of humanity's basest capacity for evil. Also published in this edition are Stevenson's twenty fables which includes The Persons of the Tale in which Captain Smollett and Long John Silver step out of the pages of Treasure Island and discuss the role of the author. Condition: A very attractive copy of Jekyll & Hyde. The leather is in very good condition bar some surface rubbing to the right hand side of the top three raised bands, otherwise there is very minor rubbing to the boards' edges. There is light foxing throughout the book, heaviest at the title page, most pages unaffected). The inner binding is secure and the book is free from inscription. Seller Inventory # 015577
