An ingenious hybrid of enlightening factoids about animals and insects living in the delightful, fictional world of Five Star Land, Story Monster and Friends entices little ones to learn more about the world around them. As kids color whimsical illustrations extracted from award-winning children's books and read the words of internationally acclaimed children's nature and science writer, Conrad J. Storad, their young minds are primed for the wonders of literature.
The 36-page coloring book's central character is Story Monster, a.k.a. Little Greenie, a friendly green being who "devours stories of all kinds" and guides children from cover to cover. Its mission: to turn children into ravenous readers by introducing them to a variety of real-life creatures they will surely want to investigate to further.
WHAT MAKES THIS BOOK UNIQUE?
Story Monster and Friends is the combined efforts of five highly praised artists: Jeff Yesh, creator of the Story Monster character; Michael Hagelberg; Nathaniel P. Jensen; Nadia Komorova; and Alex Lopez. Their art literally jumps off the pages of favorite Little Five Star books to pique the interest of young readers.
In addition to engaging illustrations that beg to be filled in with crayons, markers or colored pencils, Story Monster and Friends includes information about each of the Little Five Star books featured so young readers will know where to go to discover more about the animals and insects they've taken a liking to while coloring."

About the Author
The award-winning creator of 50-plus science and nature books for children and young adults, Conrad J. Storad holds an undergraduate degree in mass media communication from the University of Akron and a master's degree in mass communication/science journalism from Arizona State University's Walter Cronkite School of Journalism. He expertly draws readers into his entertaining tales and helps students understand and appreciate the natural world. Storad resides in Ohio with his wife, Laurie.
Jeff Yesh is a freelance illustrator and graphic designer whose award-winning work has been featured in multiple children's books, including A Squirrel's Story--A True Tale. Born and raised in Indiana, Jeff graduated from Indiana State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design. A longtime member of the Five Star Publications, Inc. publishing team, he has been instrumental both as an illustrator and with promotional design.
Michael Hagelberg couldn't make up his mind about what he wanted to be when he grew up. He had a strong affinity for science and natural history, but art was also tempting. He eventually gave in to art. Hagelberg began his career as a designer with agency and freelance work after graduating from Northern Arizona University, but the desire to combine science and art soon took him into educational publications. Today he illustrates for magazine and book publishers, as well as develops fine art.
Nathaniel P. Jensen earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Texas and contributes professionally across multiple mediums, including architecture, 3-dimensional canvas, print media, and television/feature film animation. As an award-winning children's book illustrator, he has illustrated 10 titles to date. Often dressing the part of his subject matter, Nate enjoys presenting classroom workshops to students throughout the State of Texas.
Born in Czechoslovakia, Nadia Komorova studied at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, Slovakia, where she also received instruction in classical piano, the music of which continues to fill her studio as she creates her paintings. Nadia uses any traditional medium, as well as the digital approach in her work. She has illustrated several children's titles for Five Star Publications, Inc., including Horrifa, The Moon Saw it All, and Alfie's Bark Mitzvah.
