Arden Rivers escaped a stalker once. She refuses to spend the rest of her life running.
Bartending at Dot's in Silverbranch, West Virginia, gives Arden a quiet life she can control-until Gideon Blackwell walks in wearing a perfect suit and the kind of authority she has learned to distrust. He owns the Blackwell Room, an invitation-only New York club shaped by old money, buried loyalties, and a family legacy that treats control as survival. After watching Arden command a dangerous room, Gideon offers her a job.
She accepts because the choice is hers.
Under the Blackwell Room's amber light, wary fascination deepens into friendship, hunger, and a love neither of them can afford to treat carelessly. Arden refuses to become another thing a powerful man protects by deciding for her. Gideon's devotion runs fierce and deep; loving Arden will require him to understand that safety without choice can become another kind of cage.
Beyond the club's velvet doors, pressure begins to close around them. Gideon's family sees Arden as leverage. Red roses appear where they should not. Someone watches from the dark with intimate patience, turning old fear into a message meant for her alone.
Arden has rebuilt herself before. This time, she is fighting for more than survival: the work she has claimed, the people who have become home, and a love that allows her to remain fully herself.
But obsession has been waiting longer than either of them knows... and the closer Arden and Gideon become, the more precisely the shadows learn where to cut.
The Storm and the Rose is an atmospheric, open-door modern gothic romantic suspense about stalking, inherited power, found family, trauma, autonomy, and dangerous devotion.
This is Book One of the complete Storm & Shadow Duology and ends on a cliffhanger. Arden and Gideon's story concludes in The Rose and the Shadows.
The Midnight Edition is the definitive second edition of the novel.
