Have you been feeling as though something is missing in your life? Do you often feel like your emotions get the best of you and that you do and say things that you don’t really mean? Do you run into trouble within relationships with people at home, at work, in a business or whatever because you feel like you need to control the situation—but the situation tends to do whatever it wants instead?
This is the way many of us live our modern lives. We feel unhappy and alone—and oftentimes, we let our emotions determine what is going to happen next.
However, this is a miserable way to live life. There will always be moments in our lives that we wish we could control but can’t, which in turn get us upset and letting negative emotions take over can lead us to reactions that don’t fit with the situation.
Stoicism is an ancient Western philosophy whose simple, time-tested teachings of virtue, confidence and self-control have inspired generations of scholars and spiritual practitioners from Marcus Aurelius to Nelson Mandela. One of its main tenets is that we don’t always have control over what happens to us, yet we do have control over how we react. Instead of letting something else be in control, we learn how to make ourselves the ones leading our lives.
In Stoicism: Leadership, Discipline, Productivity and Meditations of the Roman Empire’s Philosophy, Jimmie Powell, a professional psychologist and mentor for over 30 years, will guide you through the process with proven strategies and life-changing tactics.
By the end of these pages you will learn how to overcome self-created obstacles that are preventing you from achieving the success you desire in all aspects of life, as well as harness your willpower to fill your lives with meaning, even in the bleakest of situations by applying the principles this book lays out in plain English.
Here are a few of the many useful topics addressed in Stoicism:
- 4 potent cardinal virtues of Stoicism that you can employ to transform your life
- Similarities found in Stoicism, Christianity and other world religions
- How to use the ideas of Stoicism to bring more ease and happiness into your daily life
- Helpful tools for managing anger, frustration, depression and anxiety
- Guided practices for manifesting acceptance, kindness and mental clarity
- How and why to develop a more minimalist approach to material possessions and media consumption
And much more!
Anyone who struggles with destructive emotions and control issues can start to implement the theories and cognitive techniques detailed in this book. The Stoic principles and practices offered are simple to understand. With perseverance, you’ll soon begin to witness a greater level of harmony developing in all aspects of your life.
Even if you’ve struggled to handle difficult situations that leave you feeling out of control or failed to improve your emotional intelligence in the past, you can gain a new lease on life with the help of the tools in this volume. Regardless of prior failures, the practical concepts and techniques this book offer provide with a plethora of motivation.
