Add to basketWould assume a very rare and first edition! Circa 1740-1745 - Undated and without complete title so we are not sure on this one! But on the spine although part damaged and faded STERLING WORKS is visible. The title page is cut of at the top but the following is intact - To the Honourable Colonel Charles Lanoe, And to the worthy Gentlemen, The Field-Officers, The Captains and Subalterns commanded by him in his Majesty's own Royal Regiment of foot, This volume of POEMS Is humbly Inscribed and Dedicated by their faithful Servant and Chaplin James Sterling. 282 pages of clear text that include the following among many other titles: An ODE on the times, To a Gentleman of Cambridge, an epilogue spoken by Mrs. Sterling on her quitting the stage, The Lovers of Hero and Leander. The Rival Generals, as it was acted at the Theatre Royal, Dublin (verse drama in five acts). Leather boards intact but having chips and on spine edges and some corners also spine torn in centre. All pages are intact but have the feeling of dampness, with part pages to binding coming loose on lower end towards the middle/end of book, but is still intact. Opening pages are torn and have endpages missing as in rear with pencil and crayon notes on rear endpages. Very scarce & rare. James Sterling was born in Ireland at Dowrass, King's County, in the year 1701, the son of James Sterling, described in the register of Trinity College, Dublin, as "generosus" or gentleman.* In a letter of his later life, the younger Sterling referred to his father as one who had held a "Post of Dignity in the Army for near fifty Years,"* and in the dedication of his first tragedy. The Rival Generals, published in 1722. James Sterling's Poetical Works, Dublin, 1734, the only recorded copy of which is in the Library of St. Paul's Cathedral. Not sure if the above is a similar copy of this one.

The cancellation period will expire after 14 days from the day on which you acquire, or a third party other than the carrier and indicated by you acquires, physical possession of the the last good or the last lot or piece.

You may use the attached model cancellation form, but it is not obligatory. You can also electronically fill in and submit a clear statement on our website, under "My Purchases" in "My Account". If you use this option, we will communicate to you an acknowledgement of receipt of such a cancellation on a durable medium (e.g. by e-mail) without delay.
To meet the cancellation deadline, it is sufficient for you to send your communication concerning your exercise of the right to cancel before the cancellation period has expired.
Effects of cancellation
If you cancel this contract, we will reimburse to you all payments received from you, including the costs of delivery (except for the supplementary costs arising if you chose a type of delivery other than the least expensive type of standard delivery offered by us).
We may make a deduction from the reimbursement for loss in value of any goods supplied, if the loss is the result of unnecessary handling by you.
We will make the reimbursement without undue delay, and not later than 14 days after the day on which we are informed about your decision to cancel with contract.
We will make the reimbursement using the same means of payment as you used for the initial transaction, unless you have expressly agreed otherwise; in any event, you will not incur any fees as a result of such reimbursement.
We may withhold reimbursement until we have received the goods back or you have supplied evidence of having sent back the goods, whichever is the earliest.
You shall send back the goods or hand them over to us or The Squirrel Book Shop, 31 Ravensdale Park, Kimmage, Dublin, Ireland, 353 89 2270007, without undue delay and in any event not later than 14 days from the day on which you communicate your cancellation from this contract to us. The deadline is met if you send back the goods before the period of 14 days has expired. You will have to bear the direct cost of returning the goods. You are only liable for any diminished value of the goods resulting from the handling other than what is necessary to establish the nature, characteristics and functioning of the goods.
