Add to basketIllustrated trade catalogue of Packard automobiles illustrated with six anaglyph stereoscopic views and accompanied by two pairs of original stereoscopic viewing glasses with red and blue lenses. Oblong octavo (5 7/8 x 8 7/8 inches). Original colorful illustrated wrappers with gilt highlighting. Extremely light rubbing to edges, light rust to staples, overall excellent. Boston/Chicago/New York: Packard Motor Car Company/American Colortype, n.d. (circa 1930). The Packard Motor Car Company was founded in Detroit in 1899, and between 1909 and 1915 the Detroit-based architect Albert Kahn designed the Packard Motor Car Company building at 1079/1089 Commonwealth Avenue in Boston, part of a larger "auto mile" of automobile-related office buildings and show rooms which stretched from Kenmore Square to Packard's Corner. This trade catalogue for Packard is illustrated with a "sculptural printing effect" to help imply the technological advancements of the modern automobile and the superiority of the Packard. The ad copy is also aimed at women, calling on "Mrs. Smith" to consider the various benefits of a Packard, including the shock absorbing and lubrication systems. "Yes, Mrs. Smith, you ought to be much interested in the motor of the car you buy, for motors to a great extent control style and style controls depreciation. No woman would think of buying anything that might be out-of-date before she could get some real use out of it.The Packard is a modern car of seasoned style. If you and Mr. Smith buy a Packard you will probably keep it at least twice as long as any car you have ever owned.Mr. Smith and Junior here can appreciate mechanical things but I am leaving it to you to appreciate style." The inside back cover contains a price list of the Packard Standard Eight, with prices for the various styles of the 6-26 and the 6-33 including sedan, coupe, touring, and runabout models, among others. As of March 2026, OCLC locates only a single holding of this trade catalogue in an institutional library.
