A guide to helping readers take control of their lives and plan their careers to get the job they want. The 36 steps shows readers how to: appraise themselves and set career goals; develop a career plan; and use the right tactics to get the job they want.
Want to change your life? Here are the tools to help you.I was inspired to write "36 Steps" when I first started working with groups of people who had been redundant in 1990.
It is often a major"life-event" such as redundancy or divorce, that triggers people into taking stock of what they want to get out of life. But it doesn't have to be. What's needed is the determination that you want the best out of life.
It sounds hackneyed, but "life isn't a rehearsal"....it happens in "real time". I'm a firm believer that to get the best out of life, you need to take control of your own destiny.
My objective was to produce a "self-managed" personal development programme in a book, which would help people to take stock of what they really want out of life. By using the exercises and techniques, you'll identify what makes you special, you'll set your own career and life goals and you'll learn about techniques which can help you to get the job you want.
Prior to writing the book I was Head of Personnel in the UK for Bristol Myers & Clairol and have taught Human Resource Strategies at Masters level. In "36 steps" I've blown the whistle on many techniques that are used by personnel managers, so that you can use them in your jobsearch.
The book contains everything you'll need to draw-up your career and life plan and the techniques to help you get the job you want: from personality profiling and career-life balance exercises, to practical tips on how to write a cv and letters of application, access the unadvertised job market, use positive body language and how to make a presentation.
I now work as a management consultant and run outplacement workshops for organisations, based on my book. If I can help in your organisation, please E-mail me.
It gives me a tremendous buzz, when I hear from people who have attended a workshop or who have bought my book and used the techniques to land a job. Like Peter for instance, a Manager who had been unemployed for a year. Peter had applied for hundreds of jobs, without success. After using one technique from "36 Steps", he landed a job within a week. Or Heather, a school leaver who followed the advice in "36 Steps.." and got the first job she applied for, as a trainee Veterinary Nurse.
If you have used "36 Steps" to help you get the job you wanted, I'd love to hear from you.
Add "36 Steps" to your shopping cart and you'll receive a toolkit of techniques that will help you to change your life.
Good luck with your jobsearch and remember "Today is the first day of the rest of your life"!
Kind regards
