MASTER THE ART OF PLAYING OUTSIDE with BEN KERRIGAN!
Stepping Outside is your complete guide to breaking free from stale boxes, predictable lines, and the fear of playing "wrong" notes. If you’ve ever felt trapped inside scale shapes or worried your solos sound safe and uninspired, this book will teach you how to embrace tension and release through the powerful art of sidestepping.
Discover how modern jazz, blues, and fusion players create lines that surprise and captivate—by deliberately stepping outside the harmony, then resolving with confidence. Ben Kerrigan gives you the tools to develop a professional-level command of outside playing without getting lost in endless theory or confusing concepts.
Through a clear, practical system built around pentatonic shapes, chromatic movement, and visualization exercises, you’ll learn how to turn any scale into a launching pad for creative, modern, and truly personal soloing.
You’ll Learn How To:
- Transform simple pentatonic shapes into sophisticated outside lines
- Master sidestepping over static vamps and complex chord changes
- Visualize the fretboard for seamless key changes and modulations
- Develop advanced rhythmic phrasing that feels modern and natural
- Resolve tension effectively to sound deliberate and musical
