About this Item
Excellent, simple lithograph of the Steamboat 'Washington', built 1820, at Cincinnati, by Genl. Paul Anderson and others. "From a wood cut in possession of John Way, Jr., Sewickley, Pa." (statement below title of lithograph). This lithograph was deaccessioned from The San Francisco Maritime Museum and was once part of The Carnegie Museum collection, listed in the 1898 inventory of the Carnegie and bearing the same inventory number, 1174/1, on the back of the board. Measures 12" x 9 1/2", a thin yet rigid paper board. Black ink upon buff background with 1" plain border. Condition is about Good: framed, this would look much better, as there are breaks in the board with old repairs on the back, but surface has a large Y-shaped fissure which would be far less visible with proper repair and under glass. The right edge has a thin 1" chip where the break begins but with the lithograph matted, this would not be seen. A few spots of foxing and soiling on the border but, again, a mat will cover this. Back of board is heavily age-toned and makes the item appear to possibly be much older than 1870. SEE PHOTOS ENLARGED. Seller Inventory # 03950
