G.I. Taylor, Statistical Theory of Turbulence, Introduction and Summary of Parts I-IV. In Proceedings of the Royal Society of London, 1935, vol 151, 730pp; August/September/October issues (with their wrappers bound in at the end). Offered in the full volume containing three months. Includes: Taylor, Statistical Theory of Turbulence I, pp 421-444; Statistical Theory of Turbulence II,pp 444-454; Statistical Theory of Turbulence III, pp 455-464; Statistical Theory of Turbulence IV, pp 465-478. Also includes papers by James Chadwck and M. Goldhaber, "The Nuclear Photoelecric Effect" and C.G. Darwin, Notes on Magneto-Optics; E.C. Titchmarsh, The Zeros of the Riemann Zeta-Function; plus numerous others. Tightly rebound with reinforced hinges (making for a very strong book). Provenance: library of the University College of Wales, with their occasional markings and bookplate. The binding shows some where though as I said the binding is very tough and durable. Taylor's papers are significant for their transformative breakthrough bringing turbulence into a mathematically statistically analyzable physical phenomenon. Taylor was one of the giants in the study of fluid dynamics, one of the hardest areas to work in I think) in the field of classical physics. “The origin of the study of homogeneous turbulence [lies] in the papers of G.I. Taylor (1935, 1938) in which ‘the fact that the velocity of the fluid in turbulent motion is a random continuous function of position and time’ was first clearly recognized and developed.” --"George Batchelor: the post-war renaissance of research in turbulence" by H.K. Moffatt, from the Cambridge DAMPT site. "von Karman and Taylor were the great father figures in pre-war research in disturbances"--ibid. 714.3.…
