He is the recipient of the Sagamore of the Wabash which is the highest award of the State of Indiana, USA. He is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association, USA; Royal Statistical Society, UK; the Institute of Statisticians, UK; Expatriate Fellow of the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences; Distinguished Fellow, Dhaka University Statistics Department Alumni Association and an Elected Member of the International Statistical Institute. Dr. Ali has served as editor, associate editor and editorial board member of several international statistical journals. Five Special Volumes of Statistical Journals and a Festscrieft have been published in his honor over the years. Dr. Ali co-authored the book Testing and Inspection Using Acceptance Sampling Plans published by Springer in 2019. His co-authored edited book G Families of Probability Distributions: Theory and Practices will be published by CRC Press toward the end of 2022.
