From the Publisher
THE STATE OF THE NET: The New Frontier does for the Net what Nielson did for TV. Based on proprietary information developed by the Emerging Technologies Research Group at FIND/SVP, a worldwide market research, consulting, and advisory firm, it is the most complete and authoritative reference ever assembled about the Internet market and its user population. And it offers a comprehensive look at who's really using the Internet, why they're using it, and how they are spending their money online.
Author Peter Clemente, Vice President of Cyber Dialogue (formerly FIND/SVP's Emerging Technologies Research Group), writes that the goal of the book is to present a "clear picture of today's Internet users, who they are, where they live, what they're doing online, and what motivates them to go online: everything . . . that the latest and most reliable primary research and analyses can reveal about Internet user population and how to reach them effectively." Mr. Clemente presents a comprehensive overview of the online industry, including projections of Internet users and revenues beyond the year 2000, tracks the growth of the Internet since its roots in the military, examines trends in consumer and business usage since 1994, and reveals the most popular applications used and types of content preferred by today's Internet users.
The State of the Net offers solid forecasts of Net user and growth in Net dollars based on statistically sound data from actual user surveys, revealing what Net surfers are up to now and what they'll likely be doing over the next five years. This book provides all the information necessary for readers to develop the most effective strategies for reaching their online audience, breaking down markets and pinpointing unique user groups. It identifies four unique consumer segments on the Net: Personal Interest Consumers, Occupational Consumers, Corporate Users, and Academic Users, and provides a detailed analysis of each group, including:
· Demographic and psychographic profiles · Reasons why they use the Net · How often they go online · Percentage of female users in each segment · Each segment's online activities · Each segment's complaints about the Net · How each segment's use of traditional media-TV, telephone, newspapers, etc.-has been affected by their use of the Net · Which segments have purchased products online · Which segments are likely to make online purchases in the upcoming year · Which segments intend to increase their usage of the Net in the upcoming year
Filled with valuable, easy-to-use statistics, graphs, tables, and charts, The State of the Net is a treasure trove of information that cannot be found anywhere else, and a must-have strategic tool for anyone who wants to reach the ever-growing universe of Net users.
