Item description from seller

With Stanley s Rear Column. By J. Rose Troup and printed in London by Chapman and Hall. 1890 second edition. [10] + 361 + [40] pp. 9 x 6.25 . 8vo. Hardcover full cloth. In fair condition, with light scuffing to exterior. Cracking and shakiness to hinges at front and rear. Light instances of wear to middle of text block. Ex-libris bookplate of Frank Walkinshaw on front pastedown. Nicely illustrated throughout with black-and-white plates. Slight tear to right-hand side of foldout map. Plate facing p. 133 partly detached. General age-related toning to pages, along with periodic foxing and wear. Please see photographs and ask any questions prior to purchasing. A scarce account of the Emin Pasha relief expedition, with the Rear Column having been beset with difficulties. Written by J. Rose Troup, the transport officer in the Rear Column. This copy appears to have been from the library of Stanley, with many of the pieces in his archive having been auctioned off by Christie s in London in 2002. Mags Bros. LTD. (slip shown in photographs and included) states that this facsimile of his bookplate would have been added following the 2002 sale. Please see photographs and conduct any needed research and inquiries should you have any additional questions concerning veracity.…
