Item description from seller

Fine folding lithographed map (68 x 64 inches), laid-down on four separate linen sheets in 28 sections (34 x 32 inches), by Letts, Son & Co., with original hand-colour in full. With an inset of the Aleutian Islands, and extending to include most of Greenland and Iceland in the northeast, and the Caribbean Sea in the southeast (some light offsetting). Contemporary half black morocco solander case ( a bit rubbed). Provenance: From the map-library of Mark Babinski, his sale Swann Galleries, 8th December 2005, lot 68. A fine large scale map of North America and Central America to south of Panama Bay, and important because published at the height of the American Civil War it shows the Union States and Territories, including California, Oregon and Nevada, in green, and the Confederate States, including Texas, in purple-grey, neutral States are yellow. The Territorial configuration in the west shown on this map was very short-lived: Idaho appears but without its northern part, so that Washington adjoins Montana. The boundary between California and Nevada in the south runs along the Sierra Nevada mountains, which a few years later was pushed to the east. Nevada is missing its southernmost tip, which is still in Arizona. There is no Wyoming and its area is a part of the Dacotah [sic] Territory. West Virginia, created 10 days prior to the publication of this map (June 20, 1863) is not yet shown.…
