Dwight's plan was to live his dream, teach math, coach football, and build a comfortable life for himself. Fate had other things in store for him. The story of Dwight's physical and emotional journey from life as an able-bodied young man chasing his dreams only to have his world turned upside down by the thoughtless act of a 71-year old drunk driver. With no visible signs of life, having coded twice, the doctors called his death. But Dwight survived against all odds. With many physical and emotional setbacks along the way, Dwight has emerged to become an inspiration to many. His body battered and paralyzed forever due to a severed spine, Dwight refused to quit. His story is tragic, joyous, humorous, and full of grit. Along the way, Dwight vowed to make sure his experience counted for something. He has shared his story and laughter with hundreds of audiences across the country. He has touched countless lives. His story will make you cry. It will make you laugh. Mostly, it will inspire you to see what one man with boundless determination and a never-say-die spirit can accomplish no matter the circumstances. Readers have described the book as 'laugh out loud funny' in part, informative throughout, and uplifting in its message. The book provides a vivid peek behind the curtain of a little known world, and it examines the emotional, spiritual, and physical odyssey from teetering on the brink of death through a grueling physical rehabilitation to become a nationally known motivational speaker. Dwight's journey continues to be tragic, tearful, often humorous, and ultimately triumphant as Dwight comes to terms with his paralysis, finds strength in forgiveness, and pursues a new life of public service as an inspirational, motivational, and keynote speaker sought after throughout the South and beyond. His service as mentor, public speaker, and more has led to many State and National awards. With a very impoverished and humbling background, Dwight shows all us how to turn wounds into wisdom by finding his purpose through the struggle. His joy and passion continues to rub off anyone that comes in contact with him!"Still Standing" is simply the best example of one man's journey from tragedy to triumph. Says Dwight: "There are no guaranties in life, and it can change on a dime. All I know is that you have to face things head on, put them in the best possible light, and help others every chance you get. God has a plan for all of us, and we all have challenges to face. He also gives us the strength and resources to overcome those challenges."PRAISE FOR "STILL STANDING" "Still Standing" is an empowering read from one of the most inspiring individuals our agency has had the privilege of working with.
