Title label on spine is half chipped off. Spine cocked. Rough-trimmed edges with foxing and soil on some pages. Frontis portrait, illustrated, 297pp. Signed by the author on the limitation page. Diehl, a reporter for the Chicago Times, replaced the previous correspondent from the Times who was killed at the little Big Horn. There is much information on the Indian campaigns of the 1870s although the book is an autobiography of a newspaper man and the story of the Associated Press beginnings.
