Limited first edition numbered 334 of 500 copies. Mylar over green boards with tan cloth spine. Soil on boards with dampstains on lower rear board extending into lower margins of text. Title label on spine is half chipped off. Spine cocked. Rough-trimmed edges with foxing and soil on some pages. Frontis portrait, illustrated, 297pp. Signed by the author on the limitation page. Diehl, a reporter for the Chicago Times, replaced the previous correspondent from the Times who was killed at the little Big Horn. There is much information on the Indian campaigns of the 1870s although the book is an autobiography of a newspaper man and the story of the Associated Press beginnings.
