About this Item

Book Condition Very Good/Near fine. 1st Edition, 227 Pages. Blue Cloth with Embossed Kicking Mule on Front Cover. No Internal Markings, No ownership marks of any Kind. This book contains an intimate history of the 95th SQUADRON,the FIRST AMERICAN FLYING SQUADRON to go to the front during WORLD WAR ONE. The 95th Squadron also has the distinction of being the first United States Military Aviation Unit to go into combat. Of the small number of squadron members who did not return, Quentin Roosevelt, the youngest son of President Theodore Roosevelt, was killed in action. This is truly a rare and historic document. The history also contains a facsimile of an amazing letter writen by ERNST UDET,the former German Commander of the 4th Pursuit Squadron of the Pursuit Group led by Count Von Richtofen and his "Flying Circus". Udet's squadron engaged in several major air battles with the 95th Squadron. Bookseller Inventory # 080
