Paperback. There have been more copies of this book burned than perhaps any other single Christian book ever published. So powerful was its influence on Europe that within 6 years of its release this book had been translated into every language in Western Europe. In Naples, Italy it was said that 20,000 Christians gathered in small groups to practice inward prayer.Michael Molinos came closer to reforming the Catholic church than any other single man in history, yet he ended up sealed in a dungeon, his book condemned. A man so controversial that even until today the Vatican will not release the transcript of his (secret) trial. Now for the first time ever, this book appears in modern English, the first English-language release in over a hundred years. There have been more copies of this book burned than perhaps any other single Christian book ever published. What if the deepest Christian life is found not in activity-but in surrender?
There have been more copies of this book burned than perhaps any other single Christian book ever published.
So powerful was its influence on Europe that within 6 years of its release, this book had been translated into every language in Western Europe. In Naples, Italy, it was said that 20,000 Christians gathered in small groups to practice inward prayer.
For more than three centuries, The Spiritual Guide has stood as one of the most profound and searching works on the inward life with God. Written by seventeenth-century priest Michael Molinos, this classic explores the hidden path of silence, surrender, suffering, and union with Christ.
Rather than focusing on outward religious activity alone, Molinos directs believers inward-to the quiet center where God dwells and speaks.
In these pages, readers will discover:
• A clear vision of inward prayer beyond words and reasoning
• Insight into dryness, suffering, and spiritual testing
• Practical guidance on surrendering the will to God
• A deeper understanding of silence, humility, and obedience
• Encouragement for persevering through darkness and doubt
Molinos teaches that true transformation comes not through effort alone but through resignation, patience, and love. His timeless message continues to challenge and strengthen believers seeking a deeper walk with Christ.
Perfect for readers of Christian classics, contemplative spirituality, and deeper-life devotionals, this enduring work remains one of the most searching explorations of the interior Christian life ever written.
