Contents Introduction. 1. Interview by editor. 2. Political situation. 3. Interaction with foreign media. 4. Human rights and universal responsibility. 5. Glimpses of a great life. 6. Kindness and compassion. 7. Tibetan Buddhism. 8. Meditation. 9. The path to enlightenment. 10. Vision for human liberation. 11. Sixtieth birthday speeches. Index. While it would be wrong on our part to submit to injustice and violation of our own rights we would be equally remiss if we sat back and allowed blatant injustice and violation of the rights of fellow human beings without even registering our indignation and protest. Lack of will courage or resources may well result in surrender before tyranny but to be silent spectators while it is being perpetrated on our neighbours is tantamount to its tacit approval. Failure to challenge violation of humanity is undoubtedly to give gratuitous encouragement to its tormentors. Let all self respecting and right thinking men therefore lend their support to the worthy and humane cause for which the Dalai Lama is fighting to his peaceful struggle against injustice and oppression wherever it exists for the restoration of basic human rights the right to self determination democracy freedom of speech and worshipwhich have been denied to this countrymen in Tibet for almost half a century.
