Hallam, a Canadian, learned how to fly at the Curtiss School in Hammondsport, NY in 1914, was a private in a machine gun battery in the first Canadian contingent, became a sub-lieutenant in the RNVR serving with an armoured car detachment to the RNAS, sailed for Dardanelles, and in 1915 returned to the Hendon Air Station as acting Flight Lieutenant. He was posted to Felixstowe and became Commanding Officer of the War Flight in 1917. With photographic illustrations and a chart. With a number of pencilled marginal annotations written by someone familiar with the men involved. Gilt stamping on spine dull, white stamping on front cover somewhat chipped.
