The Spice It Up cookbooks series is a series of appreciation. For the author’s mother who inspired her love for good food prepared with locally sourced ingredients and cooked with love. For her husband whose patience allows her to experiment, recycle left-overs and work on her books all night if needed, and have her cup of freshly ground, strong coffee every morning. For her friends who willingly taste all experiments and kindly make comments to help improve the dish. The series reflects the author’s love for cooking and eating good food and “scratch” cooking at its best. With a few herbs and spices a boring meal becomes a remarkable one. Every nutritious recipe is packed with robust flavor, is easy and affordable, and only you will ever know these dishes are moderate in sodium, fat and calories. Although locally sourced ingredients are preferable, they’re not always possible, and often it’s necessary and convenient to use prepared sauces, powdered seasonings and spices, and dried or ground herbs. The importance is not to limit flavor and be willing to risk experimentation. I invite you to enjoy tasty food that is also stress free to prepare. Words from the author: I published this series because of my love for cooking and eating good food; the recipes are reflective of the way I cook. I like flavorful food that I can prepare quickly and have very little cleanup afterwards. I like interesting food with strong layers of flavor; mouth- watering food. Enjoy scrumptious, healthy & easy to prepare. Every delicious recipe is easy to prepare and affordable, using every day ingredients found in your cupboard. Some can be started the day before to reduce preparation time in the morning. Using a few well selected herbs & spices will have everyone running for breakfast in the morning.
