Item description from seller

An Attempt to Keep the Peace Between the King and Parliament Rudyerd, Sir Benjamin [1572-1658]. A Speech Delivered in Parliament, By Sir Benjamin Rudyard. Being None of Those Already in Print. London: [s.n.], Printed 1641, Iuly 2. [iv], 4 pp. First leaf blank. Quarto (7-1/4" x 5-3/4"). Disbound stab-stitched pamphlet, thread perished, edges rouged, bottom-edge untrimmed. Light toning, negligible light foxing, early handwritten page numbers to rectos, (adhesive?) residue to initial blank. $200. * Only edition. During his long career in the House of Commons, Rudyerd frequently (though rarely successfully) acted as mediator between the king and Parliament. Here, he urges "that we proceed with Moderation, that so we may have many happy Parliaments, and that no dismall events may happen to any," an admirable wish that would quickly prove futile. English Short-Title Catalogue R11305.
