A smartly illustrated work on photochemistry by significant chemist Henry Roscoe. Fourth edition. In the publisher's original maroon pictorial cloth binding. Illustrated with an attractive double-spread frontispiece, four further plates, two of which are in colour and one of which is folding, and numerous additional examples in the text. Lacking the chromolithograph to face page 63. An influential work, consisting of six lectures on the spectrum of light, by significant British chemist Henry Roscoe, known for his contributions to the study of vanadium and photochemistry. Roscoe is also remembered for his part in the creation of Oxo, the household food-stock brand. In the publisher's original maroon pictorial cloth binding. Bookplate of Isaac Henry Storey to the front paste down. Externally, smart with light bumping and rubbing, leading to minor loss of cloth to extremities, mild creasing and a few marks, more noticeable to the rear. Internally, generally firmly bound, with the frontispiece tape-reinforced, and periodical weakness throughout the text, namely between pages 48 and 49, 144 and 145, 176 and 177, and 320 and 321. Heavier spotting to the first and last few pages and also to pages 77 through 82, where the top corner was previously folded, otherwise a fairly bright and clean edition with only the occasional spot.
