"Thomas Bernhard: Vor dem. Retirement. A comedy by German soul
Court President Höller leads a double life. During the day, he speaks law as a serious judge or prevents the construction of a poison factory at the gates of his house as a successful deputy. At home, he leads a reclusive life with his sisters Vera and Clara. Ten years he had, hidden, let grass grow over his past - now he faces retirement as a high judge.
Bertolt Brecht: The Beggar, or The Dead Dog
The beggar, or the dead dog, was created in 1919, in the year of the second Munich council republic. A dialogue between an emperor and a beggar, which allows himself to "something" in 'nothing' and 'nothing' in 'something'.
Marieluise Fleißer: The strong trunk
This satirical folk piece is a bitterly evil analysis of social conditions and petty-bourgeois behaviors of the time immediately following the currency reform. Between Heroldsbacher Marian apparition and the slot machine boom imported from America moves the story of the saddlermeister Bitterwolf and his sister-in-law Balbina Puhlheller, who fight for their share of prosperity in the new time and in competition squabble no means and ways to reach the goal.
Hans Henny Jahnn: The rubble of conscience. The dusty rainbow
Unlike a natural rainbow, the "dusty rainbow" does not dissolve; it overlays the earth with a threatening, destructive layer - with atomic dust. The central theme of his work, saving the creature from the destructive consequences of progress, has also entered this drama. The themes of the last piece by Hans Henny Jahnn are of a downright disturbing topicality: the threat to man by nuclear power plants that get out of control; the monitoring of science by state security services; the alliance of the injured in a federation of the weak, the opponents of nuclear power.
Klaus Pohl: Heaven also took the woman
The state is everywhere - even in love. Also? Especially in love. A senior government council gets to know a student in a night bar. He already knows her face; from shots taken by the Constitutional Protection. Suddenly he faces the "original". A decent German official turns through. A German student is slaughtered. From fear becomes hatred, the forbidden dreams crawl and remain behind as a death longing."
