From the Author: I will explain who I am and why the cookbook was written
Hi! I am Leu Wilder, a southern middle-aged female, former home economics teacher, wife, mother, grandmother, and long suffering cook. Over the years I have collected many wonderful recipes. Some have been handed down from my mother and grandmother. Some I have developed through trial and error, and until now , have been only in my head Others date from my childhood with origins unknown and many have come from friends.

When my three children left home and established their own households, they all have, inturn, called for "my" old recipes. When my youngest daughter wanted my recipe for vegetable soup, I told her as best I could to boil together meat, tomatoes, vegetables, ect. Later, when I asked her how the soup turned out, she said, "The flavor was very good but it was more like stew." When I inquired how much water she used to boil the meat in, there was a long pause. She said, "Water?" So the next time I made soup, I measured and recorded. Slowly the everyday recipes were put on paper.

The recipes in this book are from our innocent years. Many make no concessions to cholesterol, sodium, fat or calorie content, but evoke memories of home and hearth. They are a collection acquired over a lifetime, a remembrance of growing up in the rural South, recorded with nostalgia and lovingly passed to my children and grandchildren.
