Most careers don't stall because of a lack of talent.
They stall because of unspoken words.
You know the moment.
A meeting where you disagree, but stay silent.
Feedback you want to give, but swallow.
A boundary you need to set, but postpone, again.
And later, the frustration hits. The overthinking. The quiet fear that speaking up might cost you your reputation, your relationships, or even your job.
Speak Up at Work is for professionals who are capable, conscientious, and tired of choosing between honesty and safety.
This book doesn't teach you how to "be more confident" or "just say what you feel." That advice is easy to give and dangerous to follow. Instead, it shows you how to communicate with clarity, calm, and strategic awareness in the real world of power dynamics, hierarchy, and unspoken rules.
Drawing on psychology, neuroscience, and years of observing how high-performing professionals navigate difficult conversations, Ed Merid reveals why tough conversations trigger anxiety, even in competent people, and how to regain control before fear takes the wheel. You'll learn how to say what needs to be said without sounding aggressive or weak, how to handle defensive reactions without collapsing or escalating, and how to speak to authority in a way leaders can actually hear.
More importantly, this book helps you understand that your fear isn't a flaw. It's a signal. And once you know how to work with it, not against it, everything changes.
Inside, you'll discover how to:
This isn't about winning arguments.
It's about earning respect while staying true to yourself.
By the final chapter, speaking up will no longer feel like a risk you hope to survive. It will feel like a professional skill you can rely on, again and again.
Because in today's workplace, silence is no longer safety.
Clarity is.
If you've ever left a conversation wishing you had said more, or said it differently, this book will change the way you speak, and the way you're heard.
