Explore Devilish Seduction And Victorian Hypocrisy In This Gripping Tale
“The world is at your feet, perhaps; yes—but what a world! What a trumpery clod of kickable matter! Wealth acts merely as a kind of mirror to show you human nature at its worst.”
The Sorrows of Satan by Marie Corelli, a pioneering female author of the Victorian era, is a groundbreaking supernatural thriller published in 1895.
In 19th Century London, penniless author Geoffrey Tempest receives an unexpected fortune and a mysterious new friend, Lucio. As Tempest navigates high society's glittering facade, he discovers a world of corruption, spiritual emptiness, and moral decay.
Corelli's novel weaves a captivating tale of temptation and redemption, challenging Victorian ideals and exploring the nature of good and evil. This influential bestseller blends gothic horror, social critique, and religious allegory, reflecting the human soul's struggle against material desires.
Don't miss the chance to explore this influential gothic novel by a pioneer of early bestselling fiction.
Marie Corelli (1855-1924) was one of the most popular and controversial English novelists of the Victorian and Edwardian eras. Born Mary Mackay, she adopted her pen name early in her career. Corelli's vivid imagination and flamboyant writing style captivated readers, making her the bestselling author of her time. Her works, blending romance, spiritualism, and social commentary, despite critical disdain, sold in the millions. Corelli's most famous novels include A Romance of Two Worlds, Thelma, and The Sorrows of Satan. Her influence on popular fiction remains significant to this day.
