Lyricist Herbert Kretzmer’s copy with his stamp and a drawing as well as annotations in his hand. From the estate of actor Terence Stamp. Stamp and Kretzmer were good friends - Stamp once saying 'Herbert Kretzmer is my oldest friend in London. He was a working stiff all his life until at 65 he got the job writing the lyrics for ‘Les Miz’ and became super wealthy and famous and he’s still my friend. So when I have doubts I consult him.' I have checked the writing which is in Kretzmer's hand, rather than Stamp's, so this was Kretzmer's copy, and the lyricist must have then gifted the book to Stamp. Lyricist Kretzmer wrote the English language lyrics for the highly acclaimed musical Les Misérables; as a journalist and drama critic, he interviewed John Steinbeck, Truman Capote, Tennessee Williams, Sugar Ray Robinson, Louis Armstrong, Henry Miller, Cary Grant, Duke Ellington and other stars in literature, music, drama and film. Indeed Kretzmer interviewed Stamp, and from that meeting, their friendship blossomed. Terence Stamp (1938-2025) starred and acted in a whole litany of films including The Collector (1965), Wall Street (1987), The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994), The Limey (1999), Young Guns (1988), Bowfinger (1999), Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999), Red Planet (2000), The Haunted Mansion (2003), Elektra (2005), Wanted (2008), Get Smart (2008), Yes Man (2008), Valkyrie (2008), Song for Marion (2012), Big Eyes (2014) and many others, including Superman and Superman II, as well as the recent Last Night in Soho (2021). His last performance was in the yet to be released Priscilla Queen of the Desert 2. Provenance: from the estate of Terence Stamp and full evidence of this will be provided. …
