Synopsis:

The present research was focused on formulation-optimization of solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs) of Cassia Alata extract, based on the need to enhance the therapeutic potential of this medicinal plant using advanced drug delivery systems. Cassia Alata was selected due to its well-documented antimicrobial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties, attributed to its rich content of bio-active compounds such as anthraquinones, flavonoids, and phenolic acids. However, its clinical utility had been limited by poor water solubility, instability of active constituents, and low bio-availability. To address these challenges, SLNs were chosen as the delivery system because they offered advantages such as improved solubility, enhanced stability, protection of phytoconstituents, and controlled release of the encapsulated extract. These nanoparticles, made from bio-compatible and biodegradable lipids, also allowed for better bio-availability and the potential for targeted delivery through various routes of administration. The lipid matrix enabled sustained release, which was expected to improve therapeutic efficacy while minimizing dosing frequency and side effects.
