Synopsis:

As the health and environmental dangers connected with fossil and nuclear fuels - pollution, the greenhouse effect, acid rain, radiation - become more hazardous and the demand for more energy continues to increase, the need for a clean and safe source of energy becomes essential for the survival of the planet. Such a source is proposed by this book. Its theme is that solar power can be harnessed to split water into its component molecules - hydrogen and oxygen. Unlike fossil fuels, there is an almost inexhaustible supply of water, which is the only raw material in the proposed process. And hydrogen is an ideal fuel. It can be stored and transported to where it is needed; when burnt, it can be used to generate electricity or used directly to fuel cars, trains, aeroplanes and spaceships; and when it is burnt, water is the only by-product. The authors' view is that this renewable source of energy can not only safeguard our energy-consuming society, but also save the world.
