This anthology presents a variety of historical, social, and philosophical perspectives on technological change and its social consequences, stressing the manner in which technological innovation creates new ethical problems for human civilization. Providing a strong foundation in both theoretical and applied ethical matters, SOCIETY, ETHICS, AND TECHNOLOGY encourages students to critically engage anew the social effects of the technology that surrounds them in their daily lives.
Review: "None of (the other) texts have been particularly helpful in resolving the knowledge gap problem....None of them provide an adequate introduction to issues in technology and social change. In addition, most of the articles assert quite sophisticated ethical claims, and I have never been one to rely heavily on editor's summary overview of background material in ethics. I think that the inclusion of the sections on historical and social perspectives goes a long way toward addressing this lack, and gives Winston and Edelbach a significant advantage over its competition.
