Reflecting the recent surge of interest in culture, this volume brings together top researchers in the field of social movements whose work represents the major approaches to movement analysis from a cultural perspective. The contributors address such issues as various approaches to culture; how movements are affected by the culture of the larger society in which they act; and the internal cultures of these movements. The volume includes a critical survey of the cultural analysis of social movements, as well as a section on methodology.
Contributors include Michael Billig, Loughborough University; Rick Fantasia, Smith College; Gary Alan Fine, University of Georgia; William A. Gamson, Boston College; Eric Hirsch, Providence College; Jane Jenson, University of Montreal; John Lofland, University of California, Davis; Alberto Melucci, University of Milan; Ann Swidler, University of California, Berkeley; Verta Taylor, Ohio State University; and Nancy Whittier, Smith College.
