1/4 leather with printed boards, with an 1849 date below the central image of George Washington. Fair condition, well worn, front board missing lower right corner, frontispiece defective, bottom 1/4 missing. Lacks the last page of the appendix. 22 maps, 2 of which are double-page. The biggest differences between this edition and the 1848 issues are changes in the map of the United States. The most notable of these are the addition of the words "Gold Region" in California and "Mormon Set." along the Great Salt Lake. California is shown extending east to the long northwestern tail of Texas.
