What if your home could protect your family, cut your energy bills, and make everyday life easier — all from your smartphone?
Smart home technology has transformed how we live. But with so many products, platforms and protocols to choose from, knowing where to start can feel overwhelming.
In this eight-book series, international smart home expert and bestselling author Gerard O'Driscoll walks you through everything from A to Z — how to plan, install and get the most from a home automation system that works for your family and your budget.
Get all eight books for over 66% off the individual cover price.
The series covers the full smart home landscape:
- Essential Guide to Smart Home Safety & Security — Six smart systems to enhance your family's security levels, from alarms and IP cameras to smart locks and doorbells.
- Essential Guide to Smart Bulbs & Lighting Control — How to plan and install wired and wireless lighting control, with practical scene and automation examples from a real Irish home.
- Essential Guide to Smart Home Entertainment — Multi-room music, whole-home HDTV distribution, and app-controlled home cinema.
- Essential Guide to Smart Homes for Aging Adults — How technology helps you or a loved one stay at home longer, safer and more comfortably.
- Essential Guide to Nest Smart Home Automation — Smart thermostats, CO and fire detectors, and cameras using the Google Nest ecosystem.
- Essential Guide to Samsung SmartThings — Step-by-step guide to building a SmartThings-based home automation system.
- Essential Guide to Apple's HomeKit — How to build a smart home using Apple's HomeKit platform, written for Apple device users.
- Essential Guide to Wearables 2.0 (BONUS) — Smart watches, fitness devices and how wearables connect to the smart home.
A note from Gerard: These guides were written during the early years of the smart home industry, when the technology was first becoming accessible to ordinary homeowners. The principles, planning approaches and installation frameworks are solid and still very much relevant. Some specific product details and platform interfaces have evolved since publication — that's the nature of a fast-moving industry. Think of this series as your foundational smart home education, written by someone who was installing these systems in real homes while everyone else was still figuring out what a smart bulb was.
