Item description from seller

Three prints on one plate. Hogarth's treatment of the Sleeping Congregation, the torpor caused by a country parson's sermon, foreshadows Rowlandson's satirical device of bringing together different types of individuals at a ludicrous social occasion. Columbus Breaking the Egg depicts an apocryphal tale concerning Christopher Columbus's response to detractors of his discovery of the New World. Copper engraving. Good condition. Uncoloured. Size: 41 x 33 cm. (16 x 13 inches).
