Item description from seller

Pitts, Lilla Belle; Glenn, Mabelle; Watters, Lorrain E. Singing Together. Boston: Ginn and Company, 1957. 1957 Revised Edition, First Printing, confirmed by dual copyright dates (1951 and 1957) and the Ginn printer’s code “4. 35-6.10 A,” with the letter “A” indicating the first impression of this revised edition. A bright and unusually well-preserved example of the Our Singing World series, featuring vivid red cloth boards with an attractive black-and-green pictorial design and charming two-color illustrations by Ruth Wood, Alison Cummings, Alice Freeman, and Marguerite Scott. Formerly owned by Exeter Township School District (Reading PA,) but with minimal institutional marking (one discreet stamp, no pockets, circulation slips, or spine labels). The cloth shows only light corner wear and minor rubbing, while the interior remains clean, fresh, and surprisingly bright for a mid-century classroom text. Binding is tight and firm, and pages show only light handling - far better than typically found. Condition: Very Good, based on overall structural integrity, strong boards, fresh interior, and minimal provenance intrusions. A particularly attractive mid-century school music reader, gathering folk songs, seasonal pieces, part-singing, rounds, sacred selections, and brief musical dramas, all enhanced by the signature visual atmosphere of Ginn’s postwar music curriculum. Ideal for collectors of vintage educational materials, retro classroom design, and the history of American music education. Lilla Belle Pitts was a leading figure in American music-education reform and longtime professor at Teachers College, Columbia University. Mabelle Glenn served as Director of Music for Kansas City public schools and was nationally known for her work in classroom vocal pedagogy. Lorrain E. Watters, Director of Music for Des Moines public schools, contributed extensively to mid-century approaches to group singing and child-centered music instruction. Their collaborations helped shape American elementary music teaching for decades.
