Item description from seller

Print on Demand. This book begins by examining the history of the silver voltameter and summarizing the contributions of previous researchers, finding that the deposited silver often varied considerably from the predicted quantity. The author set out to eliminate the uncertainties and improve the precision of this measurement, examining the effects of pressure, temperature, used solutions, electrode sizes, and comparing the commonly used porous cup form with a new lter paper design. They found that the porous cup design had the advantage, as it protected the cathode from secondary oxidation products formed at the anode. The work presented here increased the precision of the voltameter as an instrument and helped pave the way for its adoption as an international electrical standard. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.
