Synopsis:

Designed for use as a classroom text, this book is a useful beginning contact-signing book. It present 1185 signs, organized into 41 lessons. Each lesson contains clear illustrations of all vocabulary English glosses and synonyms, sample sentences to define vocabulary context, and practice sentences to clarify sign language usage. It includes suggestions for teachers and a reference reading list. "Mind ticklers" enliven the lessons with hints, tips and mnemonic devices. The content of each lesson makes the book easy to use. The unique feature of the signs being repeated in the sentences throughout the book provides practice opportunities for the students. The large illustrations should make the learning process fun.

About the Author: Edgar H. Shroyer is former Professor and Director of the Education of Deaf Children Program at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, NC. Susan P. Shroyer is a former teacher and administrator at the North Carolina School for the Deaf, Greensboro, and a certified interpreter.
