This copy of Shoup's rare and desirable volume of tales from remote districts of California's back country, was originally a presentation copy inscribed to the Women's City Club of San Francisco on the third free endpage, SIGNED by Shoup and dated June 25, 1929. It was later acquired by the Los Angeles County Library system and so it is ex-library with some library markings. The chocolate brown leather portions of the covers have been neatly covered with clear plastic while the light leather center portion of the covers has been left exposed. Both parts are extremely clean: there is just one 1/2" spot on the back cover. There are call number stickers on the spine and a library barcode sticker on the back cover. The public library's bookplate has been affixed to the first free endpage. No marks on the title page, library or otherwise but there is a pocket on the reverse of the book's last page. Frontispiece photograph of Paul Shoup has a couple of light ink lines, otherwise book's pages are clean and unmarked. Despite its stint as a library book, this is still a very nice copy of a rare and desirable book of Californiana. Bookseller Inventory # ABRP59
