A Shorter History of Rome by "M. Cary" and "H. H. (John) Wilson" is a mid-twentieth-century academic survey adapted from Cary’s larger work, "A History of Rome". Written for students and general readers, it offers a clear and structured account of Roman history from early Italy through the Republic and the Imperial period, ending in late antiquity. The book emphasizes political institutions, constitutional development, military expansion, and administration, while also addressing social and economic factors. Wilson’s revisions improved clarity and organization, making the text accessible without reducing scholarly reliability. This particular copy reflects its age. The spine shows visible.
