Joyce Gibson Roach has collected "snippets" of stories, recipes, and traditions of life in Turtle, Texas, which represents many small towns--and the people who inhabit them. Many of the younger generations leave such towns, finding both place and society crumbling. Those who've stayed are finding new and interesting ways to put themselves and their places back together. Both the short and long pieces herein are about the folks who've elected to stay generation after generation, knowing that for them wherever they've stayed is still the Home Place. The characters' viewpoints are personal, sometimes agreeing with facts found in history books and sometimes not.

My areas of specialisation are Texana and folklore, with smaller collections of history and children's fiction and non-fiction between 1930 and 1970.

This is no Half Price Books nor Strand Bookstore, rather one person selling books as a side hustle and a passion. When you deal with me, you deal with me, not an anonymous clerk. I presume sales to be final except in case of substantial condition discrepancy or lost and strayed shipments, and frown upon buyer's remorse.

Shipping Terms:

Books will be wrapped securely in unused newspaper stock and shipped in bubble-padded mailing envelopes. Additional bubble-wrap may be included for large, heavy, or specially fragile items. After multiple instances of the US Post Awful losing books for me (it averaged about one per month) I have changed to UPS for US domestic shipments. Unfortunately, this also means I CANNOT ship to Post Office box addresses any longer (the delivery trucks won't fit into the little boxes) and I have to charge more S&H than I used.

I send international shipments via the broker Global Post, at International First Class rates. This will of necessity delay delivery at times.
