Item description from seller

First and sole edition of this publication covering Omani history from the first century until 1971. We have traced six institutional holdings, with only one outside the UK (Holy Spirit University of Kaslik). The work is mainly focused on the 16th to 20th centuries, noting the Buraimi dispute, British influence, and the discovery of oil. Concluding the publication is a description of the reign of Sultan Qaboos bin Said al Said, who initiated wide-ranging modernization plans: "The Sultanate of Oman, its independence fully recognised and its long isolation ended, became a member of the Arab League in October 1971 and, soon afterwards, a member of the United Nations" (p. 14). Octavo. Original red wrappers, wire-stitched as issued, front wrapper lettered in black and white. A little rubbed and creased, a few minor surface scratches, faint marks to wrappers and contents. A very good copy.
