The shipping log and personal account book of James Griffiths dating to the 1880s. Volume has approximately 200 leaves; about three-quarters of the leaves are used, and are in written in blue and black ink in a clear hand. Volume has flexible leather boards and marbled edges. Boards have moderate chipping along spine and scratching to boards; leaves have light soiling. The first half of the volume is dedicated to a shipping log, where Griffiths has recorded the date, name of the ship, its origin, destination, Captain, and cargo. Most of these entries are simple but some are quite detailed. For example, "Jany. 'American Barge Ladroga' of New York. Capt. Piece (?). Left Newport on Nov. 1st, 1881 bound to New York…" and "Aug 14 'Rosebud' of Cardiff, Capt. Splatt. Total Output 801.00." The second half of the volume contains Griffiths' accounts from the National Provincial Bank of England, Post Office, Savings Bank. Some of his expenses included hats and hat cases, umbrellas, cash gifts, refreshments, train fares, new signet ring, cashmere and plaid material, etc. An interesting look into the life of James Griffiths and is worthy of more research. ; 12mo 7" - 7½" tall.
