Print on Demand. This book is a deeply researched biography of Richard Brinsley Sheridan, tracing his life from his parents' humble beginnings through his legendary career as playwright, orator, and politician. The author presents new material from Sheridan family and friend archives to create a portrait of a witty, principled, yet financially irresponsible genius. Sheridan's father was a prominent schoolmaster and close friend of Jonathan Swift; his mother was a gifted musician. The author draws parallels between Sheridan and his father, exploring how both men's lives were impacted by their sparkling intellect and poor business sense. The book examines Sheridan's literary successes, his tenure as manager of Drury Lane Theatre, and his political career, in which he allied with Charles James Fox and became a staunch supporter of Whig principles. Beyond recounting his achievements, the book delves deeply into Sheridan's complex personality and motivations. The author explores the tension between Sheridan's public triumphs and his private struggles, including his marital woes and gambling debts. This meticulously researched biography sheds new light on one of the most fascinating figures of the 18th century, providing a fresh perspective on Sheridan's life and work. The author's engaging style and deep understanding of the period make this a valuable contribution to Irish and literary history. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

- Biography and Autobiography
When in Canada several years ago I read with infinite pleasure a work by Mr. Fraser Rae on Wilkes, Sheridan, Fox; the Opposition under George III. The spirit in which it was exe cuted seemed to me so fair and honest, and the author showed so great a familiarity with the time and events of which he treated, that I deter mined, if an opportunity occurred, to suggest that he should undertake a complete biography of Sheridan.
I was the more inclined to do this on account of the unfortunate treatment which the subject had received at the hands of previous writers. The biography compiled by Dr. Wat kins is a piece of bookmaking of the worst type. Moore, who professed to be Sheridan's friend Wand admirer, and to whom his papers were en trusted, committed the fatal fault of planning his Memoirs of Sheridan upon too large a scale.
